EZ UPDATES

For readers of the EZ 66 Guide for Travelers, I have provided free online updates to help keep your Route 66 experience as current as possible. As you might imagine, Route 66 is constantly undergoing changes, some good, others not so. Businesses open and close, roads are re-routed and street names change.

Please check back here just before your trip for the latest info. Entries are dated as to when they were added.

If you wish to purchase your own copy of the EZ Guide, please go here.

EZ 66 readers have been helpful in keeping me keep the guidebook updated in between my own road trips, so if you discover something that needs to be addressed while on your journey, please let me know!

OK PAGE-19 SIDE TRIP on Feb 17, 2024 at 2:11:20 pm [Print]
Curently road construction has blocked the Side Trip Loop at Hiwassee Rd on the west end. You cannot drive this section until they have finished reconfiguring the intersection of Hiwassee, State Hwy 66 and the Side Trip. Also, currently this stretch of OK 66 is still being widened, and the road is down to one lane. You must follow a pilot vehicle. Its hard to stop at John Hargroves place until this finishes.

EDMOND TO OKC on Feb 17, 2024 at 2:08:01 pm [Print]
As of last week Kelley was still blocked south from Britton Rd.You can avoid this by using Britton Rd (the BELTLINE OPTION) or detour east or west to catch the next north-south road to return to Kelly or I-44

WINTER WEATHER on Jan 13, 2024 at 4:56:34 pm [Print]
CHECK ROAD AND WEATHER CONDITIONS AHEAD BEFORE YOU DRIVE ANY OF 66 IN THE WINTER. CURRENTLY (FOR EXAMPLE) OKLAHOMA IS EXPERIENCING SEVERELY COLD TEMPS AND WIND CHILLS, WITH SNOW EXPECTED...THIS WILL INCLUDE KS AND MO TOO. TX, NM AND AZ HAVE RECENTLY EXPERIENCED ROAD CLOSURES AT TIMES. BE CAREFUL!

AMBOY DETOUR UPDATE on Nov 24, 2023 at 3:52:24 am [Print]
66 has long been CLOSED between Cadiz Rd (east of Amboy) and Fenner, CA ( at I-40 EXIT 107-see CA page-2, etc).

Currently, the road is washed out just east of Road Runner's Retreat (map CA page-6), so you cannot even drive as far as Chambless/Cadiz Rd now.

DO NOT follow bad advice often found on facebook to drive the closed section by going around the many damaged bridges in the sandy washes. Just because someone else made it thru without getting stuck, breaking down or getting caught doesn't mean YOU will be ok.

Also, on my recent drive thru, I noticed repairs in progress on a couple of the bridges west of Amboy. Glad to see the county out there trying to keep up with this huge task.

Flagstaff AZ on Nov 20, 2023 at 6:47:15 pm [Print]

BUMP LA METRO TRAINS on Oct 17, 2023 at 3:45:29 pm [Print]
ADVISORY CA PAGE 27 on May 22, 2023 at 8:22:38 am
On the advice of local tourism folks, I am going to recommend you use CAUTION if you choose to use the Metro Line trains mentioned on this page. This was a good option, and locals still use them...but perhaps not advisable for the average tourist now. Do some homework first and exercise some street smarts.
