Hi! We are taking the first half of Route 66 WB beginning Easter Sunday! We did the full thing in a week in May 2012 & boy that was too much. Anyway, we are using your book once again. I wanted to let you know of a new place called Russell's Truck & Travel Center. It's listed as a truck stop, but it's soooo much more. wwebsite: http://www.russellsttc.com/ There's a free car museum inside, as well as a cafe. The owner's of the Blue Swallow told us about it when we stayed there last summer coming back home to TX from CO. GOOD museum! Worth a stop for sure! Hope we get a chance to stop in & say hello when passing thru Chandler!

Hi -
I am going to take "the trip" in early June as a retirement present to myself. In your opinion, how much of the route can I cover in 7 to 10 days? I'll be leaving from upstate NY, near Albany, so the first day will be spent just getting to Illinois.
Thanks,
Jerry

Despite the error, the link DOES end up at my publisher's website. Just clik on the tab labeled "Route 66 store" (above where the error message appears) and you'll be able to see the EZ Guide and other books offered.
At least that's the way it works on my browser!

Thought I would let you know that your link to the "ez" guide no longer works. When you click on this link... If you wish to purchase your own copy of the EZ Guide, please go here. The national66.org sites page says "Error 404 - Not Found"
Just an FYI :-)

We finished our R66 run just over a week ago and have since returned to the UK and have been reflecting on the journey. We drove all of the way from Chicago to Santa Monica with no directions other than your guide, neither map nor satnav were needed nor missed. I think I need to revise upwards my estimation of the value of your guide.
We did a few touristy things along the way (Monument Valley - superb; Grand Canyon - vastly overhyped) but for us the road was always the winner. We met some fantastic people along the way. All the people who are keeping the spirit of the road alive in maintaining businesses (diners, museums etc) and all of the drivers/riders were always kind, generous and helpful. It is a trip we shall not forget and without your guide we would have missed so much. When we do this try again, we will know better what to do and what not to do; although the latter is confined only to the miserable 4 hour drive into Santa Monica from San Bernadino. To enter the maelstrom of the city and the aggressiveness of the drivers after so much peacefulness and solitude of the road was an eye-opener.
