Jerry - Good to see you in Tucumcari and talk some 66 stories. I will enjoy the B Swallow print with the purple SSR in front. The man I suggested you contact for great NM stories and his own treasures is ; Bill Gilmore - Rt 66 Chamber of Commerce(?), PO box 1422, Albq.,NM, 87103. - 505-294-8348. He has seen a lot - great friends with late Bob Audette. Has grand old motor home filled with 66 memorabilia. No e-mail as this is not his medium! Worth the effort. Would like for you to consider doing full color illustration of the modern neon arch over Central Ave in east Albuq, heading west towards 9 mile hill, and have vintage cars passing under, both directions, as sun is setting and neon just turned on. I think you would do this justice, whereas most images now are photos and likely photoshopped, to enhance. Just a thought.
Hope to talk with you soon. Keep up great work and enthusiasm.
Craig

I just wanted to say Hello from the Route 66 Mother Road Museum in Beautiful Barstow, California. You came in a last year when you were working on your new guide. I love what you said about the guide. I am one of the few and proud volunteers here at the museum. I love this place and hope lots of people come visit us because of your guide.

Jerry –
I just wanted to say how much my wife, my daughter, and I enjoyed our stop in Chandler. It was great to meet you and see your studio. I would encourage others to do so as well. (But please be thoughtful. Arrange your visit and call ahead first.)
I think all of us who use the EZ guide (and the earlier fold-up maps) feel somewhat akin to you as you have talked us all through the route many times. You really are as nice as you seem in the guide and the videos.
Thanks for EZ guide. I still can’t comprehend what you did to put that together.
Todd

Just did Illinois and part of Missouri and really enjoyed it, with the great help from your guide.
We have Second Edition (ordering Third now), so the following may have been updated already:
Snowflake DriveIn, Berwyn, Ill. Appears to be gone, all we found was a concrete slab. But the nearby Hoffman Tower is worth the side trip to that section.
Williamsville, Ill: Dream Car Museum closed, but the Die Cast Car place is worth the stop.
Gardenway Motel in Gray Summit, Mo is not aging well and not being kept clean.
Favorites with two thumbs up:
Cozy Dog in Springfield, Ill
Rich and Creamy in Joliet,
Henry's Drive In in Cicero
Eat-Rite Diner and Ted Drewes in St. Louis
Docs Soda Fountain in Girard, Ill

Hi Jerry, My wife Jodi and I just had our first experience with Historic Route 66 using your second edition guide. It felt schizophrenic. Driving parallel to the roaring, speeding and insane I-44, along quiet sedate, and lets face it, beautiful Route 66. Give me 66 every time. We were coming back from visiting our son in NM, so our first experience was from Amarillo to exit 108 in OK. I will definitely be buying the third edition. I was born in '56, so we are about the same age. I worry about preservation of the landmarks along the route. It was dreamy, romantic, and kind of sad. I love the yesteryear exuberance and celebration of being human and being alive, none of which happens on an interstate. Met some great people in OK as well, and got a great recipe for buttermilk pie at the Main Street Cafe (now Sweet Petals) in Erick, OK. Very kind, very nice people. As an architect, I am in awe of the original concrete road. Did they really do a crowned concrete road with rolled curb for 2,448 miles? That is incredible. And are the bridges (some of them at least) WPA projects? Many look similar to other WPA projects I have seen. We also got into Shamrock, TX late, so I got a great shot of the neon on the U Drop Inn. Gotta love Art Deco. Unfortunately for us, time constraints forced us back onto I-44, but I would have loved to have gone all the way to St. Louis, where our trip took us away from the Mother Road, but, alas, time would not permit. I wish I were rich, I would start at one end and restore the whole thing as best I could, especially the nostalgic and kitsch architecture. What true Americana. I feel sorry for young people today. Everything is so ephemeral and ungrounded (an electronica joke, "electronica" being my term for what has happened to us in the last 20 years). What a delicious experience is Route 66. Sorry 3rd edition came out before I could recommend Red River Steak House in McLean, TX. We had a great time there as well. Thanks for what you do, hope to meet you before the end of the trail, my friend. God bless you.

Hi Jerry .
We met in 1993 during Route 66 Fun Run , you posed with one of your paintings with my wife for me in Seligman , just ouside and opposite Angel's barber shop, before the show was really on for good .
You might , or might not remember us , we took part in the run , but with a modern blue Plymouth Acclaim . You might remember yourself mailing us a few postcards with some of you artwork !
We very much envied you at that time ,and still do now , since you really could live your hobby in the true meaning of the word .
We returned a couple of times to the US , and made Route 66 on the Californian side . Since we later had dogs , travelling to the US has been out of our reach , and we do not know if we can return some day , as we are getting in the ages , just now still doing well ! I saw you picture of the Seligman Snow Cap in " CRUISING" by Whizel/Bash , so I just decided to drop you a line : Are the Delgadillos still ok ?
I had my hair cut by Angel , and we had burgers at the Snow Cap . As you now might have guessed by my Email adress , we own a flawless 1955 half ton Chevrolet pickup truck , that spent most of its life on Route 66 in Oklahoma .
It was nice to meet you on Route 66 , greetings from Luxembourg Josée and Lu Lieser

Dear Mr. Mc Clanahan,
Howdy Sir. Thank you for the great website. I have your EZ 66 guide and wish that I had it for my previous trips on the mother road.
I'm looking forward to using it on Tuesday as I pick up the road in Missouri and take it into Oklahoma.
Here are some of my favorites from Route 66:
Illinois-Old gas station full of signs in Springfield.
Kansas-Galena museum
Oklahoma-Rock Cafe in Stroud. Will Rogers museum in Claremore. Totem Poll in Foyil (the staff's fantastic!) Oklahoma Route 66 museum in Clinton. Roger Miller Museum & Old Curiosity Shop, Erick.
Texas-Art deco gas stations in Shamrock. Barbed Wire Museum in McLean. Historic 6th Ave in Amarillo (Great shops & 806 coffee's outstanding). Boot Hill Saloon in Vega.
New Mexico- Tucumcari is hanging on but barely.
Looking forward to using Mr. McClanahan's book on this trip in a few days. Thanks again!
Jay
